Data Deletion
Jotcal · Last updated: July 16, 2026
This page explains exactly what data Jotcal holds, where it lives, and how to have it deleted. Most of your data never leaves your device, so most of the deleting is something you can do yourself in seconds. The records we hold for you can be deleted on request.
This page covers Jotcal for iOS and Jotcal for Android. Where the two differ, the step is marked:
iOS only Android only
What we hold for you (server-side)
The only data Jotcal stores off your device is a small set of licensing records in our backend, which runs on Cloudflare Workers. They are keyed to your device. This is the complete list:
| Record | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Trial | Device identifier, the date and time your free trial started, when the record was created, and your platform. |
| Purchase | Order ID, device identifier, product ID, purchase token, purchase state, when it was verified, your platform, and which verification method confirmed it. |
| Subscription | Purchase token, device identifier, product ID, expiry time, when it was verified, and your platform. Only if you hold a subscription. |
| Trial reset | Device identifier, a short note we wrote describing why a fresh trial was granted, and when it was armed and used. Only exists if we manually granted you one — most devices have none. |
We do not store your calendar events, tasks, notes, handwriting, email address, or location on our servers.
- Calendar data stays on your device. On Android it also stays in the account you connected (Google, Microsoft, iCloud, or your own CalDAV server). Android only
- Location, if you enable weather. On iOS your device fetches the forecast from Apple WeatherKit directly — it never reaches us. iOS only On Android it passes through our backend, which rounds it to roughly a 1 km area to fetch the forecast and never stores it against your device. Android only
- Server logs. Our backend logs your device identifier, and an order ID, in a couple of licensing paths. These are retained for no longer than 7 days and then deleted automatically, rather than on request — we do not copy them into our database, so they are not part of the records we delete for you.
Request deletion of your server-side record
To have the records above permanently deleted from our backend, email us:
Email: support@jotcal.app
Subject: Data deletion request
Please include your Device ID so we can find the exact record, and tell us whether you are on iOS or Android. You can find your Device ID in the App under Settings → About, where you can copy it. If you can't get to it — for example, you have already deleted the App — email us anyway and we will work with you to identify your record.
What happens next:
- We delete every record listed above that is keyed to your device.
- We confirm by email once it's done. We aim to action requests within 30 days.
- Note: deleting these records resets your trial state. If you have already purchased, your purchase can be restored from the store; deleting the record does not entitle you to a renewed free trial.
Your DeviceCheck trial markeriOS only
On iOS, the fact that your device has used its free trial is also recorded as two bits held by Apple against your device, using Apple's DeviceCheck service. This marker is separate from our database, and it survives deleting the App — it is what stops a reinstall granting a second trial. It contains nothing but those two bits: no calendar data, no personal information, and nothing that identifies you. If you want it cleared as well as the records above — for instance, you bought the device second-hand and inherited someone else's used trial — say so in your email and we will reset it. Clearing it needs your device to check in with us once afterwards, so keep the App installed until we confirm.
Deleting data stored on your device
Everything else Jotcal stores — your calendar events, tasks, notes, handwriting, and settings — lives only on your device. You control it directly:
- Delete the App: removes all of Jotcal's on-device data. Works on both platforms.
- Clear app data: Android Settings > Apps > Jotcal > Storage > Clear Data removes all locally stored data, including events, tasks, notes, settings, and stored account credentials. Android only
- Disconnect an account: in the App's Settings, disconnecting a calendar account removes its stored credentials and synced data from your device. Android only
- Revoke access: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars (and → Location Services) cuts Jotcal's access. There is no account to disconnect on iOS — the App reads the calendars already on your device and holds no credentials. iOS only
Deleting calendar data held by your providerAndroid only
On Android, your calendar events and account details are stored by the provider you connected (Google, Microsoft, or Apple), not by us. To remove that data, disconnect the account in the App and manage or delete it directly with your provider. Revoking Jotcal's access in your Google or Microsoft account settings immediately ends its ability to read or write your calendar. On iOS there is nothing here to do: Jotcal never connects to a calendar account, so there is no access to revoke beyond the iOS permission itself.
