Frequently asked questions

How do I connect my calendar?

It depends on your platform, because Jotcal uses whatever your device already syncs before asking you to sign in to anything.

On iPhone and iPad, there's nothing to connect. Jotcal reads the calendars already set up on your device, so whatever you see in Apple's Calendar app (iCloud, Google, Exchange, Outlook, or a CalDAV server) shows up in Jotcal once you grant calendar access. To add a new account, use iOS Settings → Apps → Calendar → Accounts, and it appears in Jotcal automatically.

On Android, open Settings → Accounts in Jotcal and start with Device calendars. That covers accounts Android is already syncing, including Google, Exchange and Samsung, and it works both ways: events you create or edit in Jotcal sync back out to them.

Android can also connect directly to Apple iCloud, Outlook (personal Microsoft accounts) and generic CalDAV servers from that same screen. Signing in to a Google account inside Jotcal isn't available yet; use Device calendars for Google, which is the simpler path anyway. Outlook work and school accounts aren't supported yet either.

My calendar isn't syncing. What should I do?

First, check that your device has a working internet connection. Then try a manual refresh, and confirm the account is still connected under Settings → Accounts. If a provider has expired your sign-in, disconnect and reconnect the account. If syncing still fails, email us with your provider name and we'll help.

How does handwriting recognition work?

Jotcal recognizes handwriting on-device, so your strokes never leave your device for processing. Write naturally with a stylus, and Jotcal converts your notes into calendar events. Handwriting needs a stylus — finger writing isn't supported, so your finger keeps working normally for tapping and scrolling. Clearer, more separated characters tend to recognize best.

I purchased Pro — how do I restore it on a new device?

Pro is tied to the app store account you purchased with. Sign in to the same App Store (Apple) or Google account on your new device and use the Restore Purchases option in Settings. If your purchase doesn't restore, email us and include your order receipt.

How do I delete my data?

Your calendar events, tasks, notes, and handwriting are stored locally on your device. You can remove them by disconnecting accounts, clearing the app's data, or uninstalling the app. To request deletion of the limited trial and purchase records associated with your device, see our Data Deletion page.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your calendar data, tasks, notes, and handwriting stay on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
